A little known feature of RPG is the ability to create data areas (object types *DTAARA) that contain default H-specs (control specifications). The RPG compiler uses a hierarchy to determine which H-spec to use. If an H-spec is coded directly in the program, it will be used. Otherwise, the compiler will look for the following data areas:
